FILM GENRES
Horror
Horror films usually are designed to panic, frighten or scare an audience, these are often very jumpy in order to create suspense. They tend to deal with the things which as an audience we are most scared of, this could be killers or ghost - things which we consider to be dark. However, the purpose is not only to scare the audience, yet to also entertain. Horror films can also use fictional/fantasy characters, for example Vampires or Zombies, things that we see to be scary, despite the fact we view them to be fictional.
Action
Action films are most commonly known for the use of fast-paced editing and big stunts. They often have a high energy created, giving an entertaining aspect to the audience. They often show many dangers, for example characters are usually doing dangerous stunts, in dangerous situations, or have to face a major disaster - and so the audience get to see the character face battles, races, chase scenes etc which causes a thrill to the audience. These types of films can include spy movies, for example James Bond, who is the typical hero of these type of films. However more recently, women are also shown to be strong in these roles, for example Angelina Jolie in Salt.
Comedy
Comedies are usually light hearted dramas, designed to make the audience laugh and add a humorous aspect to the film. They are known to hugely over exaggeration a situation, in order to add the comedy, concentration is paid highly to the language used, and the actions of characters. More recently, comedies are shown to be told as part of the narrative, for example Grown Ups, as oppose to in a sketch with well timed gags. Comedies are usually aimed at males, usually of the age range 18-30.
