Research and Planning: Film Magazine Analysis 2

This magazine is of the film genre, which is made obvious from the masthead of the magazine "Total Film". Other than the masthead, indicators to the genre are also the fact that there is a well known actor on the front cover; Tom Felton, from the Harry Potter Film Collection. We cam also see from the cover lines on the page, vocabulary such as "on the set of..." and "the 25 greatest horror movies of all time" immediately indicate the magazine is a film magazine.
As well as this, we can see the cover follows the typical conventions of any magazine; a masthead, coverlines, positioning statement "THE MODERN GUIDE TO MOVIES", barcode, as well as a three colour rule.
In terms of layout of the magazine, we can see that a three colour rule has been used; black, blue and grey. However as well as this we can see a lot of white on the magazine cover. The shot of the actor is a medium shot, as it shows him from the waste upwards. The actor is covered in what looks like blood on his face, however unlike the empire magazine, it is hard to say whether or not Tom Felton is in fact in character as Draco Malfoy on the cover. All cover lines are around the photo, and there has been a rule of three used for the headings "Speaking", "Screaming", "Smoking".
I would say that the target audience for this magazine is for people who are interested in the Harry Potter series, but also there could be a wider audience of those who enjoy many types of films, due to the diversity within the magazine and the fact that it has many big film reviews. By looking at the cover, I would say the target audience is people aged between 16-25 years old.
