Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis 2

The Roommate: Film Poster
The poster does not immediately give away the fact that it is of the horror/thriller genre, however the facial expression of the main character on the photograph shows there are more sinister elements to the film. Also, the fact that everyone else is blurred and she isn't gives the impression that she is different from everyone else, for some reason she stands out. This gives an element of mystery to the film. The use of the grey sky shows that there is some form of pathetic fallacy, the fact that the sky is dark reflects the darker nature to the film. Shows an element of foreshadowing later events.
The film title however, follows typical horror/thriller poster conventions, the fact that the font is red has the connotations of danger, death and blood. This gives it a sense of the horror genre which we are used to, as well as hinting at the dark elements to the film.
This film also has a line "2,000 colleges. 8 million roommates. Which one will you get?" this is interesting as it speaks directly to the audience, the line seems to add some fate and makes it seem as though the events of the film could happen to anyone. This also hints at what will happen in the film, the figures are used in a way that it seems that of all the roommates you could be stuck with, you are stuck with the worst one. I like the way this line connects with both the film and the audience, this is something which I could try and connect to my film poster/trailer. This has made me think on about possible lines I could use for my film poster, that would reach to the audience.
Steeltongs has been used in the film poster, as in the first analysis I completed, this is something I will defiantly be using in my horror poster. Again the production company logos have been used in the bottom right hand corner, which is something which I plan on putting on my poster, this being a main convention of all film posters.
